Celebrating Libya’s Beauty, Cultural Heritage, and Environmental Vision
The Libyan Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo 2010 was a remarkable showcase of Libya’s rich cultural heritage and its commitment to sustainability. Designed and executed within an extraordinary timeframe of just 25 days, the 1,000 sqm pavilion captivated visitors from around the globe with its innovative storytelling and advanced design features.
A Collaborative Achievement
The project was a result of a successful collaboration between MET Studio, DPM, and the Engineering Consulting Office for Utilities (ECOU), whose role was instrumental in its success. The ECOU team coordinated efforts across three key locations: Tripoli, London, and Shanghai, ensuring seamless execution under tight deadlines.
ECOU’s responsibilities included managing logistics, securing materials for the exhibits, and delivering exceptional graphic designs that aligned with the pavilion’s vision. The team’s expertise in handling on-site installations and their ability to collaborate effectively with both international and local partners ensured the project met the highest standards.
An Immersive Experience
The pavilion featured cutting-edge audiovisual installations that vividly portrayed Libya’s history and environmental initiatives. A stunning 12-projector system created a 360-degree immersive display, enveloping visitors in compelling visuals and narratives. Additionally, custom software powered around 20 monitors throughout the pavilion, offering a layered and engaging visitor experience.
The content seamlessly introduced visitors to Libya’s cultural legacy while highlighting its modern environmentally conscious building programs. By combining education and entertainment, the pavilion offered a memorable experience that resonated with audiences of all backgrounds.

The Libyan Pavilion exemplified the power of creative collaboration, advanced technology, and efficient project management. Beyond celebrating Libya’s past and present, the pavilion reflected the nation’s vision for a sustainable and culturally enriched future.
