Imago Mundi is one of the largest contemporary art
collections in the world, founded in 2006 by Italian
entrepreneur Luciano Benetton under the Benetton
Foundation. The project documents living artists from
over 160 countries through a single unified format —
a 10×12 cm canvas — creating a global map of human
cultures at the start of the third millennium.
The collection currently holds over 26,000 works and
has been exhibited at major venues including the
Giorgio Cini Foundation in Venice and The Cooper Union
in New York.
In 2015, the Benetton Foundation formally invited
Muftah Abudajaja to curate the Libya edition of the
collection — titled "Libya: Hurriya" — bringing
together 140 contemporary Libyan artists under
exceptionally challenging logistical conditions.
The catalogue was published in three languages and
is now archived on Google Arts & Culture as part of
the permanent Imago Mundi digital collection.
